Eryops megacephalus was a giant semi-aquatic amphibian that lived 295 million years ago during the Lower Permian period. Fossils of this creature mostly come from Archer County, Texas, but scientists also find bones in New Mexico and the Eastern United States.

It averaged 4.9 to 6.6 feet long and could reach a maximum length of 9.8 feet. This size made it one of the largest land animals of its time, with adults weighing around 200 pounds. The creature had a proportionately large skull that was broad, flat, and reached lengths of 2.0 feet.

This massive animal had an enormous mouth full of curved teeth that looked much like the teeth of modern frogs. The specific shape and cross-section made these teeth exceptionally strong and highly resistant to stress when biting prey.
