The Prosaurolophis is a dinosaur that lived about 76 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period. It was first discovered in 1922 in Alberta, Canada by Dr. William A. Parks. He named it Parasaurolophus, a name which means “crested lizard”.

The most noticeable feature was the cranial crest, which protruded from the rear of the head and was made up of the premaxilla and nasal bones. Parasaurolophus is sometimes restored with a skin flap from the crest to the neck.

The crest was hollow, with distinct tubes leading from each nostril to the end of the crest before reversing direction and heading back down the crest and into the skull.

Parasaurolophus was a long-crested, duck-billed dinosaur. Parasaurolophus grew to be about 40 feet (12 m) long and 8 feet (2.8 m) tall at the hips. It weighed about 2 tons. Parasaurolophus was an herbivore, eating pine needles, leaves, and twigs.

It may have migrated from shorelines to higher ground to reproduce. Parasaurolophus was an ornithopod, whose intelligence was midway among the dinosaurs. Parasaurolophus walked and ran on two legs, and was a relatively fast dinosaur.
