The general coloration of Peters Duiker or Cephalophus callipygus is a reddish brown, typically paler on the neck and forequarters and darker towards the back and rump. A fine black dorsal line begins between shoulders and runs along the spine to the rump, where it expands over the rear flanks, including the tail.

Peters Duiker or Cephalaphus callipygus inhabits the central African rain forest block between the Atlantic Ocean and the Congo and Ubangi Rivers.

Peters Duiker or Cephalophus callipygus is active during the day and spends the night resting or sleeping. These diurnal habits allow Peters duiker to coexist with the nocturnal, but otherwise very similar, bay duiker (Cephalophus dorsalis). This species usually feeds in open areas, but flees into dense cover if threatened.

Daytime resting areas are typically in thickets, but sleeping spots at night are often in areas with minimal undergrowth. An adult female Peters Duiker or Cephalophus callipygus occupies a home range of approximately 40 hectares; this overlaps with those of several other females and a male.

Males are thought to keep other males away from their territories. Population densities range from 0.6 to 15.5 animals per km2.

Peters Duiker or Cephalophus callipygus diet is principally fruit and they also eat leaves, flowers, fungi, and animal matter.

Duikers are primarily browsers rather than grazers, eating leaves, shoots, seeds, fruit, buds, bark, and often following flocks of birds or troops of monkeys to take advantage of the fruit they drop.

They supplement their diets with meat: duikers consume insects and carrion from time to time and even manage to capture rodents or small birds.
