In 1934, researchers discovered the Tabun 3 jaw in Tabun Cave at Mt. Carmel, Isreal. This nearly complete male mandible shows structural affinities with both the Neanderthals and the archaic Homo sapiens of the region.
Archeologists excavated the Tabun Cave site within the Nahal Me’arot Nature Reserve in Isreal. This site represents one of several human evolution locations at Mount Carmel, which UNESCO proclaimed as having universal value in 2012.
