American lion humerus bone replica measures 17.0 inches. Panthera atrox bone is museum-quality polyurethane resin cast from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County Foundation, Page Museum specimen. 1:1 scale. Made in USA.
Simpson referred several fossils from central Mexico, even as far south as Chiapas, as well as Nebraska and other regions of the western US, to P. atrox. 1971 witnessed the description of fragmentary remains from Alberta, Canada that extended P. atrox’s range north.
In 2009, an entrapment site was set up at the remote Natural Trap Cave in Big Horn County, Wyoming was briefly described and is the second most productive Panthera atrox-bearing fossil site. It most importantly contains well-preserved mitochondrial DNA of many partial skeletons.
