Argentinian paleontologist José Bonaparte led the 1984 National Geographic expedition that unearthed the only known Carnotaurus skeleton.

This famous discovery occurred within the eighth phase of a long-term South American terrestrial vertebrate project. While weathering destroyed the lower legs and tail, the remaining articulated frame stayed remarkably intact.

The fossil represents a mature adult, evidenced by the fused sutures found within the braincase. Interestingly, the creature died on its right side in a classic arched pose with the neck curved over the torso. Furthermore, the most significant aspect of this find involves the extensive skin patches recovered from the site.

Although fossilization deformed the snout and exaggerated the jaw curvature, the rear skull remained rigid. Consequently, This specimen remains a cornerstone of Argentinan paleontology alongside the spiny sauropod Amargasaurus.

Start your Cretaceous display by adding the Giganotosaurus carollinii skull replica to your order. While that massive specimen represents one of the largest South American hunters, paring the Carnotaurus skull with the Abelisaurus skull replica shows the unique short-faced family traits. Additionally, the Herrerasaurus skull replica provides an essential look at the very first predators from the same region. These professional polyurethane resin models allow viewers to compare different predatory weapons across millions of years of prehistoric history.
