Description

Chirostenotes claw replica measures 4.5  x 1.4 x 0.8 inches. The claw is a museum-quality polyurethane resin cast of original specimen. 1:1 scale. Made in USA.

Chirostenotes had a sharp beak and long arms with powerful claws. It also had long, slender toes. A tall, rounded crest sat on top of its head. This crest looked just like a modern cassowary bird. The dinosaur lived during the Late Cretaceous period in Canada and the United States.

The third finger of its hand was longer than the first finger. Its toe bones were also very long and thin. Its hand were perfect for collecting mollusks, insects, and eggs. The dinosaur had a very specialized third finger. It likely used this long finger to pry insects out of tight cracks in trees or streams.

Because scientists have never found a fossilized stomach with its last meal, they must look at its closest relatives. Dinosaurs in the same family, like Anzu, have toothless beaks built to eat both meat and plants.

Its long fingers were perfect for grabbing small lizards. At the same time, its sharp beak could easily crack open seeds and nuts. It ate a little bit of everything to survive.
