Description
Sinraptor dinosaur skull replica measures 4.25 x 2.25 x 2.0 inches. The Sinraptor dongi skull is museum-quality polyurethane resin cast of the Institute of Vertebrate Palentology and Paleoanthropology specimen. 2-part skull (separate cranium and mandible). 1:9 scale. Made in USA.
Sinraptor lived as a theropod of the Shishu Formation in North West China. This genus existed during the Late Jurassic. It stood nearly 10 feet tall and measured 25 feet in length.
The name Sinraptor or Sinraptor dongi comes from the Latin prefix “Sino”, meaning Chinese, and “Raptor” meaning thief. Additionally, the specific name dongi honors Dong Zhiming.
A joint Chinese and Canadian expedition uncovered the holotype specimen from the Sishugou Foundation in 1987. Subsequently, Phillip J. Currie and Zhao Xijin described it in 1994. Because the holotype reached nearly 9.8 feet in height and measured roughly 25 feet in length, it represented a significant find.
