The dinosaurs had very long, slender hind limbs to run quickly away from predators. They grew a large claw on the second toe of each hind foot. They actively kept these sharp toe hooks raised off the ground while sprinting. This behavior kept the tips from dulling against rocks. They lowered the claw to trap small animals.

The small meat-eaters also had very long and thin three-fingered hands. Their finger bones could grasp and hold moving prey tightly.
