Real fossils of this apex predator come from the late Cretaceous period. Scientists excavate them from the famous Hell Creek Formation in North America. A fully grown T. rex weighed up to eight tons.

It walked entirely on three massive, forward-facing toes on each foot. The claws on these toes had to be incredibly strong to handle the stress of running. They are frequently found with deep grooves where blood vessels once nourished the claw.
