Ground Sloth Brain Replica for Biology
Ground sloth brain replica measures 7.4 x 3.5 x 3.0 inches. Megatherium jeffersonii brain is museum-quality polyurethane resin cast from CAS specimen. 1:1 scale. Made in USA.
The History of Megalonyx
Megalonyx, which means “great-claw” in Greek, represents an extinct group of North American ground sloths. These mammals first appeared during the Pliocene Epoch and survived until roughly 13,000 years ago. The most famous species, M. jeffersonii, reached nearly 3 meters in length. Because it weighed up to 1,300 kg, this animal was the largest of its kind.
Scientists believe Megalonyx descended from Pliometanastes, a sloth that reached North America 9 million years ago. Although many species stayed south, Megalonyx achieved the widest distribution of any ground sloth. Their range covered most of the United States and even reached Alaska during warmer periods.
This genus is also famous because Thomas Jefferson described the first remains in 1799. Later, researchers named the species M. jeffersonii to honor his work. Sadly, these giants vanished during the end-Pleistocene extinction event. Evidence suggests that humans interacted with them, as researchers have found butchered remains dating just before their final disappearance.

Construct a bespoke paleontological research set by coupling this ground sloth brain with our Scelidodon skull replica specimen. To achieve an exhaustive examination of Cenozoic mammals, incorporating a Hoffmann’s two-toed female skull replica osteological model offers an ideal reference for evolutionary morphology. To complete your assemblage, we suggest the fossilized giant ground sloth skull replica, a critical component for evaluating the specialized anatomical modifications of these colossal Pleistocene mammals.
