The Megaraptor was a large meat-eating dinosaur. It lived 84 to 65 million years ago during the Cretaceous period.
This dinosaur grew about 25 to 26 feet long. Scientists discovered its fossils in Argentina. They found them in the Portezuelo Formation.
Its name means giant thief. The animal had a very unique feature on each hand. Its thumb had a huge 14-inch claw that looked like a sickle. The cover made the claw even bigger, longer and sharper.
The dinosaur probably used its tail for balance. The tail helped it make fast turns. It may have also had a relatively large brain and large eyes.
The Megaraptor thumb claw is very flat from side to side. It is also massive from top to bottom.
The height at the base is nearly double the width. This gave the blade maximum strength. The claw could withstand heavy stress when the dinosaur ripped into prey.
