The California condor is a New World vulture. It is the largest North American land bird.
This species became extinct in the wild in 1987. Wildlife managers captured all remaining wild individuals. They have since reintroduced them to central and southern California, and northern Baja California. It is the only surviving member of the genus Gymnogyps. Other fossil members are known.
Its 9.8-foot wingspan is the widest of any North American bird. Its 26-pound weight nearly equals the trumpeter swan. The swan is the heaviest native North American bird species.
The California Condor is a scavenger. It eats large amounts of carrion. It is one of the world’s longest-living birds. It has a lifespan of up to 60 years.

Sunshine, the California condor skull replica, joined the group playing the game Trouble. She whacked the plastic bubble and scored a six.
Tomas, the turkey vulture skull replica, pressed the bubble in the center of the board with his blunt beak. The little red die bounced inside, landing on a five. He moved his yellow peg five spaces along the track.
Vortex, the king vulture skull replica, slammed his beak down on the Pop-O-Matic dome with a loud thump. A six. He immediately released a new blue peg from his home base.
Then came Sunny, the California condor disarticulated skeleton replica, with a joyful rattle, she got a perfect six. She happily moved her green peg six spots, counting out loud each move she made, with a big grin on her face.
