Eastern gray squirrels are common tree squirrels. This species is native to eastern North America. In its home woods, it acts as the most active and highly helpful natural forest dispenser. In Europe, humans view it as a highly harmful invading species.

They have mostly gray fur that can also show a brownish color. This quick creature features a large, very bushy tail. Especially in city spots where the danger from hunters is low, both white and black-colored squirrels are quite often found.

They weigh between 14 and 21 ounces, and they are about 9 to 18 inches long. They are excellent climbers and can descend from trees headfirst.

A diet of tree bark, tree buds, berries, many types of seeds, and acorns along with walnuts and other hard nuts like hazel nuts makes up for much of their consumption.

Families produce two litters each year during the spring and summer months. A single litter yields an average of two to three young. Extreme litter sizes occur occasionally, ranging from one to eight kits during years with lots of wild nuts.
