The flat-headed kusimanse is a mongoose from West African rainforests. These small mammals grow between 7.0 to 7.9 inches tall at the shoulder. Females weigh betwe1.1 and 2.2 pounds, while the males weigh 2.0 to 3.3 pounds.

They have a very long nose that extends past the lower lip by a large amount. Their ears are short and round, and their eyes have long, horizontal pupils. Like all mongoose, the have five digits on each foot. They walk flat on their front feet. The front claws are long, while the back claws are shorter. Both males and females have paired anal scent glands.

These mongooses have a total of 36 teeth. Their grizzled fur features brown-black fur with lighter tips. They have a dense layer of undercoat with guard hair. They also have fur whorls on the back of the neck and a hair crest between the eyes. They are primarily carnivores, but they also eat fruits from African oil palms and Aspilia trees.
