The Plesiosaurus is an extinct, large sea reptile that lived during the Early Jurassic period. Growing around eleven feet long, this creature stands out due to its small head, long thin neck, broad turtle-like body, short tail, and two pairs of large, long swimming paddles.

This giant hunter used its U-shaped jaw and sharp teeth like a fish trap to catch and eat squid-like animals, fish, and other small prey.

It used its large paddles to push itself through the water, since its tail was far too short to help it swim. It likely used its long neck like a boat rudder steer during a fast chase.

Unlike many reptiles that lay eggs on land, the Plesiosaurus gave birth to its babies directly in the open water.
